THE ARTS SOCIETY COLCHESTER

WHAT IS CHURCH RECORDING?
Church Recorders are Arts Society volunteers who make records of the contents of our national churches. The items are described in detail and their history researched. All the material is then compiled into a book illustrated with photographs and drawings. This is presented to the church and copies are sent to national institutions.

Since 1981 The Arts Society Colchester has recorded the structure and contents of nine churches - Copford, Layer Marney, East Mersea, Elmstead, Brightlingsea, Abberton, Dedham, Lawford and Fingringhoe. We are currently in the process of completing the Record of St. Mary’s Church at Langham with a small group from TASCol and The Arts Society North East Essex. However, once this has been completed later this year the TASCol Church Recording group will sadly close, due to lack of volunteer support.
